How the KS-1 cuts — and how to use it
When a fiber optic cable is opened for splicing or termination, the Kevlar aramid strength member has to be cut back before the fibers themselves are stripped, cleaved and spliced. Aramid yarn is made to resist cutting: ordinary scissors tend to slide along it, or squeeze the strands aside and fray the bundle. The KS-1 exists for this one step of cable preparation — a light, economical pair of shears sized for the splice tray and the tool pouch.
One of the two blades is micro-serrated. The fine teeth grip the yarn bundle as the handles close, so the smooth blade shears through a bundle that is held still instead of being pushed ahead of the edge: the strands part cleanly rather than being crushed or frayed, and the glass fibers underneath are left untouched. The blades are ground from high-carbon molybdenum vanadium steel, a hard alloy steel that keeps a working edge through repeated shifts of cable preparation.
To use it: gather the aramid yarn into one bundle, keep the bare fibers clear of the blades, and close the handles in one firm motion, trimming the yarn flush with the cable jacket. Keep the KS-1 for aramid yarn only — cutting glass fiber, steel strength members or wire will notch the edges. After the job, wipe the blades clean and refit the red blade tip cover before the shears go back into the kit; every pair leaves us the same way, test-cut by hand with its cover fitted.

Questions about the KS-1
Is every pair checked before it ships?
Yes. Every pair of KS-1 Kevlar shears is test-cut before it ships, so the pair you receive has already cut aramid yarn on our bench.
Can the KS-1 carry our own brand?
Private labeling is made to your requirements and confirmed per order — labels with your logo, part numbers and barcodes on the tools, the inner boxes and the outer cartons, ready for your warehouse. The products most often labeled are the K-35 cleaver, the KS-1 Kevlar shears and the K-870 stripper.
Can we order a small lot, unbranded?
Yes. Neutral stock is held for the core range: small lots are welcome, you can mix models in one shipment, and restock as you sell. Prices are on request — EXW factory pricing.
