Steel Tape Removing Tool K-ST1
The two halves clamp over the cut steel tape, a few counter-turns split it open — armour off the cable without prising, scoring or nicked tubes.
Typical work: Removing the steel tape armour during cable end preparation, after the jacket has been slit with an armored cable slitter; Mid-span and closure work on steel tape armoured OSP cables, where the tape must come off without scoring the loose tubes beneath; Replacing the pliers-and-screwdriver method that bends tape edges into fingers and nicks buffer tubes; Fault repair on armoured feeder and distribution cables: open, remove the tape section, re-splice.

K-ST1 key features
- Counter-rotation does the work: clamp the two halves over the steel tape where it has been cut, turn them against each other, and the tape splits open in about two and a half to three and a half turns — then it cuts and lifts away cleanly
- The tape comes off without prising: no screwdriver levered against the cable core, no pliers chewing the tape edge into sharp slivers, and nothing driven into the loose tubes that sit millimetres under the armour
- Two alloy-steel clamp screws hold the halves on the tape with real force, so the drum grips instead of skidding around the armour — the failure mode that makes crews reach for a knife
- Heat-treated steel throughout with a diamond-knurled rim: the knurling is the handle, giving wet or gloved hands a grip that a smooth drum cannot, and the tool shrugs off the drops and grit of closure work
- The square centre recess takes a turning handle for leverage on stubborn tape, and the whole tool is one solid piece of metal with no blades to set, dull or replace
- It completes the armoured-cable sequence on this site: slit the jacket with the K-ACS slitter, open the tape with the K-ST1, and the loose tubes are in your hands — each tool doing the step it was shaped for
- Private labeling made to your requirements — labels with your logo, part numbers and barcodes on the inner boxes and outer cartons, ready for your warehouse

How the tape comes off — and why not with pliers
Steel tape armour is the layer that makes an OSP cable rodent-proof and crush-resistant, and it is the layer every splicer has to defeat before reaching the loose tubes. The tape is a continuous steel spiral under the jacket: once the jacket is slit and peeled (the slitter's job), the tape still wraps the core tightly, and its cut edge is razor sharp.
The K-ST1 works by clamping, not cutting. Its two steel halves close over the tape at the cut point and are locked with the two clamp screws. Turning the halves against each other — counter-rotation — walks the tape apart along its spiral: in a few turns the armour splits open, and the freed section can be snipped and lifted away without ever levering against the tubes beneath.
The pliers method fails in predictable ways: the tape slips, the edge slices a glove or a finger, the jaws dent the loose tubes, and a scored tube becomes a cracked tube at the first freeze. The drum spreads its force around the full circumference, so the tape yields along its own spiral instead of wherever a jaw happens to bite.
Use it after the jacket is open and the tape end is exposed; seat both halves fully before tightening the screws evenly, and keep fingers behind the knurled rim while turning — the split edge is still sharp. Afterwards the drum needs nothing but a wipe: no blade to hone, no setting to drift, which is why these outlive the cables they open.
